Ruins' its own Memories

The theme of this project is the memories of the ruins in Italy. There are many ruins in Italy either protected as historical heritage or parks for people to rest in. As a spatial design student, I found it interesting to see those buildings which were used to be a chapel or a residential buildings but now people are no longer inhabiting or using just the place as parks. Every space was once people inhabited and has its own memories.
Through my design, I tried to express the memory once each ruin had before it was abandoned by human.
We were given a situation to make a souvenir box for the next Italy exchange student coming here and I consider making a collection of ruins' memory in it. My idea is to make ruined buildings models I saw in Italy (Milan, Florence, and Rome) by using 3D printers and placed inside the allocated box. The box will have a simple black door with a peephole for people to look inside the box.
The design is interactive. The audience first opens the door to see the 3D ruins in the box. The audience then closes the door and as they look inside the box through the peephole, they now can see the silhouette of people who once were inhabiting the space. The audience will be able to see the memory of the ruins. By changing the way of looking inside the box, the audience can enjoy both the current and the past view of the ruins.

I’m always attracted by ruins or abandoned buildings. I found it very beautiful to see nature hanging over man-made buildings. Furthermore, the half-broken buildings make me feel the passage of time and its history. Ruins take me to the beautiful old time of Italy where people of those days were actively living their life.
Ruins are often fewer people there and therefore quiet and beautiful, which creates a peaceful atmosphere there. I feel the time passes very slowly there and it makes me feel like to stay there forever. I smell nature and beautifully musty oldness from dirt and stones.
